Also the new Hanseatic merchant elites
of northern Europe, with the central seat
in northern Germany, gained immense
power and influence, which this can be
seen as one of the steps towards Euro-
pean hegemony, at least in the case of
northern Europe. And yet again, for
better or worse, the larger historical
contexts have been sought described
through the central, yet sparse, evidence
of walrus tusk trade.
